Through a Child’s Eyes

I think just about every child loves pancakes, wouldn’t you say? One of our favorite projects at preschool is harvesting maple sap each year to make our very own maple syrup. It sounds really cool and alluring, but it’s actually a lot of work to get that syrup from the maple tree to our plate of pancakes.

Happy Spring! Folks we are sure to get “Spring Like” weather soon, right? The wildlife is sure out and about this week, we have squirrels and birds going berserk back and forth to the feeders, chirping and screeching, and squabbling. A Lax Lake area resident has a “wild” turkey taking up space with their chicken flock.

Candy’s Fun Facts

When the temperature is 30 to 40 degrees and there is snow on the ground, look at the base of trees for snow fleas – they look like bouncing pepper. They are there all the time but easiest to see against the backdrop of snow. Their tail curls under their abdomen and when the tension is released, it sends them up and in any direction.

Every Advent and Christmas we celebrate the coming of Jesus and we could say we have already enjoyed over 2,000 of them. In the Gospel of Mark, the coming of Jesus is associated not with His birth but with the beginning of His ministry, after His baptism by John. The story of the Transfiguration could be described as a “pre-Easter resurrection appearance.”

Hwy 61 Stewart River bridge construction to start on April 18

DULUTH, Minn. – Construction on Hwy 61 at the Stewart River bridge north of Two Harbors will begin on Monday, April 18. Crews will begin constructing a new bridge parallel to the historic bridge. Traffic will remain on existing Hwy 61 with 12’ lanes and no shoulders. The Kelsey Beach parking lot will also close on April 18. Project work will continue through mid-September and resume in 2023.
