A citizen group in Two Harbors calling themselves the Resign or Recall Committee have taken a first official step toward recall of Mayor Chris Swanson. On Monday, March 21 representatives of the group filed a Certificate of Recall with the interim city administrator, starting the pro cess of collecting signatures requesting a recall.
Meet Teresa Bertossi and her handsome dog Rohan. They recently moved to Knife River from the UP of Michigan. She has a PhD and is a teacher at UMD and runs the student farm growing vegetables donated to people without access to fresh vegetables. Teresa has traveled around Lake Superior in a tugboat gathering stories along the way.
The Festival of Sail is coming to Two Harbors, and questions abound. Craig Samborski, head promoter and producer of the Festival of Sail through his company Draw Events LLC, shared details.
The council discussed development of their ongoing Multi-Modal Trailhead project at length, including a presentation by city engineer Joe Rhein from Bolton-Menk. City Administrator Lana Fralich shared information regarding work already underway in the planning process for the center, which is expected to cost around $3 million, and stated that engineering work needs to begin moving forward in order to keep the project on track.
Penny and Jamie Juenemann have been host parents for exchange students several times over the years, each time welcoming a student into their Two Harbors home as part of their family. Those family connections remain intact when the student returns to their home country, and now, one of their family members is in trouble.
Business at the Lake County Board meeting on March 22 began with the redistricting process. Despite the fact that they are still out of compliance in two of the five commissioner districts because those population numbers diverge more than 10% from the average, there is no way to adjust their boundaries without creating another, often bigger issue. County administrator Matt Huddleston recommended they stay the same, as re-working the districts to be more “regular and compact,” would take years of effort in partnership with townships and cities and should start at least five years before the next census. Commissioners agreed with this assessment and approved the next move forward in the process.

Two Harbors opened the Section 7AA boys basketball playoffs with a 66-45 win over Hinckley-Finlayson but then fell to Crosby-Ironton 76-56 in quarterfinal action. The #5 seeded Agates hosted #12 seed Hinckley-Finlayson last Thursday night, jumping out to a 12-2.
The Beaver Bay Ladies closed out the parade in their green car. Apparently the Hooterville squad gave up their spot for the ladies.
