The Lake County Board met on February 8 for its Action meeting, passing 20 measures in its consent agenda and seven measures in its resolution agenda including the recruitment of a new full-time Environmental Services manager and several temporary positions for the Highway department.

In its fourth year of growing the awareness of backcountry ski opportunities on the North Shore, the organization has released its dates for Moose Mountain Tours and Intro to Backcountry classes.

Local Snowmobile Clubs Report Happy Trails

The recent snow fall has created excellent conditions for snowmobilers in the area, and grooming is underway by dedicated club volunteers. The Finland Snowmobile/ATV Club, or home of the “Great Up North” trails in Finland by their Facebook page, reported around five inches of “fluffy” snow falling in their neck of the woods last Sunday, making for a fun ride with trails in great shape.

Conservation Officer Tales

Although the Lake County Press knows that the majority of sportsmen and women are law-abiding folks, there are a few that run afoul of the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Conservation Officers. Periodically, the DNR provides a report of some of the miscreants the Conservation Officers (CO) have encountered. Masked Fan Speaks

KNIFE RIVER The 2022 Beijing Winter Olympic Games have commenced and the Women’s Ice Hockey Tournament is underway. Team USA has performed well thus far going 3-0. They have outscored their opposition 18-2 and kicked off the competition with a 5-2 win over Team Finland. They beat the Russian Olympic Committee team 5-0 and topped Team Switzerland in an 8-0 whitewash. Tomorrow evening (Mon.) the preliminary matchup that many are waiting to see will pit Team USA against Team CANADA. I cannot recall there ever being a game that wasn’t exciting between these two teams.
