Last week we discussed “spin,” and the potential to use facts to mislead, either intentionally or not. But what about fake news? Fake news is not simply “spinning” a story. Fake news is declaring something that is true that isn’t, or vice versa. In its first edition, Forrest Johnson, Editor of the Lake County Press, reminds us that there is still truth out there, and that it’s our intention to “find and report it.”
In today’s world of make-believe it’s no wonder that shysters and charlatans abound and goofy ideas take root. The world of make-believe is made more believable when fueled by social media platforms with mean-spirited and angry rhetoric or utopian self-help tips.. Believable for some, that is.
With the beginning of Lent on Ash Wednesday, the church around the world enters into the season where we walk with the Lord Jesus Christ to His death on the cross. To Christians, Christ’s death and subsequent resurrection from the dead 3 days later form the core of our belief and our hope of eternal life. It is through His sufferings and substitutionary death that He fully paid the price for our sins and deliberate rebellion against God, the Father and His just commandments. The proof of this is His bodily resurrection from the dead.
VA Health Care. At some point, I will be accused of sounding like a broken record. The complexities of the federal machine are not lost or minimized when it comes to a very significant Veterans benefit… VA health care. Even the most seasoned writer would find it difficult to completely explain this benefit in a single article. I will engage my freshman writer abilities over the coming weeks or months to elaborate on the common, as well as the lesser-known, areas of VA health care. If you want to skip ahead and learn more about this benefit, then please visit www. va.gov/health-care/.

This day, 75 years ago, modern shopping arrived in Two Harbors! On Thursday, February 27th 1947 at 10:00 am Dean Jordan opened the doors of Jordan’s Supermarket at the corner of 5th Avenue and 7th Street. While the first supermarket opened in 1916 by Clarence Saunders, grocery shopping as we know it did not go mainstream until the 1930s.
This time of year, it might feel like winter is stretching on and on with no end in sight. Fortunately, creative projects are an excellent way to add some color, pizzazz, and joy to these snowy days and get you through to spring!
Over the past few months, I have researched, spoken with, and interviewed numerous entrepreneurs from Lake County. All of them are passionate about solving a problem or building a better solution. The conversations lasted hours and didn’t feel like an interview.
At a regular meeting of the Silver Bay city council the city’s Economic Development Director (EDD) gave updates on ongoing projects, and recommended further exploration of the feasibility of moving forward on new development.
