North Shore Pee Wees Head to Regions

The North Shore Pee Wees played in Silver Bay last Saturday morning against Duluth East. We ended up winning 4-2. It was a strong, hard game. After we won, we advanced to play Cloquet Saturday night who is #1 in our District. We ended up losing, but we were down by three and came back in the 3 rd , and scored two goals within 30 seconds of each other, but we just couldn’t pull it off. Hats off to Cloquet on how well structured they are! They are a very fun, clean and fast team to play with!

From the Outside

A number of years ago I spent a couple of weeks in late winter, visiting my Uncle Horst and Aunt Almuth on their farm in western Canada. Runoff Report

The reluctant editor found his balance after that comforting National Union of Friendly Americans “Ride for Mirth, Merriment and Absolution” on snow sleds that weren’t too old and weren’t too new and were just right as long as the spark plugs didn’t foul and the windshields didn’t fall off, nor did the riders before they cleansed themselves of bad habits.

A Postscript

A reader expressed concern about the article “Health–Discussed all the time–or is it? (Jan 28). Specifically, the author’s suggestion that Vitamin D should be taken to lessen risk of being infected with COVID. The reader, a professional scientist, could not find credible evidence supporting this statement, noting the findings that suggest there is no link and the limitations of many of the studies as well as the fact that current research on COVID can, and has, developed new findings over time.

3…2…1…LEGO!!! Wheeling up to a table that is chest height, longer than you are tall when laying down, and wider than my arms can reach can be overwhelming to say the least. What is civility? After two years of a pandemic, many of us are burning out. It seems there’s more polarization and less civility. The news is full of stories about customers yelling at restaurant workers and school board meetings descending into chaos. How do we remain civil to each other as we navigate our new normal? “Civility is the baseline of respect that we owe one another in public life,” Keith Bybee, the author of How Civility Works, told NPR (2016).
