Silver Bay Council Moves Forward with Boathouse Bay Development Plans

During a regular meeting of the Silver Bay city council discussion was held regarding planning for the development of the newly dubbed Boathouse Bay. A resolution was passed to enter into a contract with JPJ Engineering firm of Duluth, a move that will allow the city to move forward with public utilities planning for the area, as well as opening the door to applying for grants for the project.

Two Harbors Votes to Refer Crypto Currency Matter to Attorney General

A special meeting of the Two Harbors city council was held on February 1 st , just twelve days after another special meeting addressing social media behavior of Mayor Chris Swanson. This meeting was held “to determine whether or not a certain New York Times (NYT) publication dated January 25, 2022 entitled The Rise of the Crypto Mayors should be referred to the Minnesota Attorney General”, according to the agenda.

Nordic Team Travels to Snowflake

The North Shore Nordic Ski team participated in another frigid ski meet at the Snowflake Nordic Ski Center in Duluth on Friday Jan. 28. The temperature hovered around 10 degrees F the entire meet with a breeze, making for a lot of skiers working hard to stay warm before and after their races. This was a relatively large meet with schools from Duluth East, Ely, Cloquet- Carleston-Esko, Mora, Proctor/Hermantown, Grand Rapids, North Star Academy, Marshall, and Mesabi East.

DNR deer population goal-setting webinar held Jan. 26

Avid deer hunters in the Arrowhead Region might not be too happy to hear it but the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources doesn’t seem interested—at this point— in finding ways to increase the whitetail deer population in our region. In response to the moose population decline, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) proposed keeping lower deer densities in the moose range.

Conservation Officer Tales

Although the Lake County Press knows that the majority of sportsmen and women are law-abiding folks, there are a few that run afoul of the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Conservation Officers. Periodically, the DNR provides a report of some of the miscreants the Conservation Officers (CO) have encountered. The Lake County Press shares these stories as a reminder to all to be safe and to follow the rules!
